It was an amazing experience for a first time to try to stay in a cabin!

The property is in a beautiful green valley with cows grazing on the hills opposite. Incredibly quiet and peaceful. The lodge commicated often via text and had dinner and breakfast options for some of our stay.

The stay was fine! Staff super nice! Restroom too far from our cabin.

very nice and quiet

We stayed in a cabin, and it was in great shape, and could sleep 8. It had a small room with a fridge and microwave. No bathroom. It was well air conditioned. The bathrooms were the only issue. It was a hot summer day and the bathrooms were over 90 degrees at 10 pm. In the morning, it cooled to about 80, maybe. It was too hot to take an effective shower at night. The extra sinks on the outside were not working or no outside light. It was miserable just trying to brush you teeth in the heat or darkness. The Petrified forest was interesting. The view and setting were great.

Nice place to stay with the family. Couldnt find the pond but the creek was pretty and has a nice area to picnic. Bedding and some could use some updating, but otherwise was great.

Centrally located

The staff was great, property has amazing views and wildlife around to watch. It is centrally located between sturgis/ deadwood and Mount Rushmore. We stayed over a holiday weekend so I’m sure the price is elevated due to that. iI would not pay what I did again for the cabin. Bedrooms are extremely small, not much room for moving around in them. Great if you’re traveling with dogs.

We had an absolute wonderful stay. We were able to reconnect as a family.

We loved how quiet and serene this lodging was from all the business of Custer. We got all the same experience but less costly and much calmer cabin. The facilities were great- all the convenience of a modern hotel with the charm of a real family run business. We will be returning again and staying here for sure!

The stay was good. Lots of places to eat at around there, but non deliver unless you use doordash. The beds were hard and that was our only complaint for our 4 day stay.

Paid pet extra deposit for my pets to stay in a room with stains on the carpet including one the found that looked like dried dog feces or vomit next to a wall. Had to throw something over it to keep my dogs away. There were little black hairs by the sink and in one of the beds. Looked like dog fur we assume. Our dogs are non shedding white and brown. Would recommend updates especially to flooring such as vinyl flooring. Easier to clean and not as gross to look at. Also, the beds and pillows seemed really old and cheap which made them very uncomfortable. Didn’t barely sleep due to discomfort even after trying to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Lastly, my daughter locked us out accidentally when we were loading our car to leave. I tried to call the emergency lockout phone number many times and sent multiple texts with no response. It was early in the morning, but why have a phone number to call in those situations if you don’t answer. Luckily, my husband was finally able to get us in our room without their assistance. We got the rest of our stuff, locked up the door again, dropped off the keys, and plan to never come back.

Dated, no wi-fi

Dated and in need of some repair, but a nice little vacation getaway. There is a WiFi network, however it is essentially unusable during waking hours so tell your kids to put the phones away.

Comfortable and Quiet Stay to Relax

I was passing through and stayed here overnight. It was very pleasant and mostly quiet place. The resort sent messages on the room and where to find the check-in office. The office let me know where to find my room and the ammenties on site. The room was clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed the view and the patio area outside my room. I recommend this place to my family and friends. And, i wish could have stayed longer.

Room was very clean and being right on the trail to the petrified forest was an added bonus.

A little off the beaten path, this resort offered unique onsite activities, beautiful views, and a relaxing environment. I’d stay again but I’d like to spend a bit more time to truly enjoy all it has to offer.

Nice to be away from town but only 2 miles from the interstate and food options.

Great place to stay!

This was a nice camping resort! We stayed in the cabins. Nice little cabins, everything was clean! The bed sheets were a little yellow with age. The only inconvenience was having to walk to the restrooms. The restrooms and shower house was clean and well kept. Staff was very friendly and helpful!

Very happy with our stay!

It's a quiet, no frills cabin-which was just fine with us! TV worked, wifi worked, beds weren't super plush but we were so tired it didn't matter. I was very happy with our accomodations. Check in was quick and the ladies were friendly. The pool was cool but perfect for the hot day. Would stay again!

It’s really nice place to stay with amazing view on the hill. The cabins are really good, I loved it. Also they guy who was in the Office, was super nice, seems like he is an owner as we saw him talking care of other things that a regular employee wouldn’t care about. 5 starts to him and 5 starts to his resort.

We really liked the view we got from our room. Although the walls seemed a little thin but was expected. Everything was clean and ready. Overall, pretty good experience.

Nice Cabin. I wish I could have stayed for several days, but we were just passing through. I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

Great view

This place was lovely. The little cabins are up on a ridge with a spectacular view of the valley. The cabin was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. A definite return to in the future.

Positives: Beautiful area; clean rooms; near popular SD "things to do" (i.e., Mt. Rushmore, Petrified forest, climbing, hiking, nearby city stuff), laundry. Negatives: the town of Piedmont is limited in food options; there is spotty internet coverage at the Resort; old beds.

True to other comments. The view is the best part. We stayed in a 4 plex cabin. Great for the dog but VERY basic and has never been updated. Mattress super thin and sheets too. It was clean but would not stay here again. Staff seemed friendly. This is a fine place if you’re not too worried about accommodations

Nice clean updated cabin. Picnic table outside. Did not have sink or toilet( dry cabin). Bathrooms clean and functioning. Outdoor sinks not hooked up. Good laundry area. Quiet outdoor area. Clean pool. Would highly recommend.

Good experience

Very nice resort. We stayed in one of the sleeping cabins. Very clean, but the main bed matress needs to be replaced. The futon was more comfortable. Bathrooms were nice and clean. It is a very large resort/campground. Next time we plan on staying in one of the bigger cabins. Overall very pleasant stay.

The property is mostly an RV park with cabins for non-RV travelers. They are nice. The scenery around the place is beautiful. I saw dear every day. It is about 20 miles from Rapid city, so other than Gas it is a drive to buy anything. The room is basic and a little old. They don’t clean every day, so you need to make you own bed and take out the trash. They do have a fridge and coffee pot. If I had more people with me I would have had to change out towels.

Nice, clean room with fridge and microwave and friendly folks at the office! Only thing I wish they’d do differently is clean up the trash behind the cabins. It wasn’t horrible, but maybe should be looked at more frequently. We had our littlest pup with us, and decided not to walk back there after the first time. Also, maybe they could put up some sign telling people to pick up their dog’s poop!! Overall it was a great stay (4 nights).

Very roomy for what we paid for, and well done in most areas. What we didnt care for so much was the floor was extreamly dirty (we have a crawling baby and he was very dirty very quickly like it doesnt get mopped) And the dish tv you could turn off but it turns itself back on all night very loud. Had to unplug everything to get it to stop. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay as well as the view outside

A little jewel with great location.

The location is great. Very accessible to Sturgis, Deadwood and northern attractions. And close to Rapid City and the airport. Beautiful view. Facilities could use an upgrade. Under new management who is sprucing it up. Having the Petrified Forest Museum on site was a big plus. Nice, educational museum and trail.

We’re were really hoping that this would be a place we could enjoy and potentially secure for a family reunion the next year. Checking in took 25 min because they were updating their system and could t find my reservation. They were a little put off because I was in basketball shorts and a tshirt from an 8 hour drive. They asked to see my ID twice and then forgot my name. The room was like a less well kept motel six. The WiFi didn’t work in the room only on the porch and the power went out three times in the 7:00 hour. Not our finest experience, in fact this became our lowest standard of acceptable in our whole cross country trip. They seemed to prioritize their RV and Camping guests over those who rented the rooms.

Cute little spot and not far from lots of food options in Rapid City

A cute cabin with everything you need and awesome hill view. We were able to see stars at night. There is no breakfast and not a lot around the area so make sure you bring some food to make breakfast. They have a well-equipped kitchen.

Met our short vacation requirement

This stay served our trip purpose. If you want to prepare any meals, I would suggest another option.

The rooms are on a hill compared to the parking. My grandma had a horrible time getting to her room knce she was there she had to stay there. Not easily accessible for older folks.

We loved the quiet and the beautiful views. The pool was closed the entire time we were there. The weeds were growing over the sidewalks to the rooms and were really high against the entire building. Also the grills were gas and in very poor condition. If there would have been gas there I would not have felt safe using it. 1 room had good beds and the other had beds that were ok just really hard. Overall it was ok. My boys loved running around and having room to roam but were really upset there was this great pool we couldn’t use.

2 day stay

We enjoyed our 2 day stay at the Elk Creek Resort. Everything was great. The beds were firm but soft, the shower hot and stimulating. Wildlife in area( wild turkeys and cottontail bunny). Would stay here again.

I will be back! Loved this place!

Black hills resort

This place was very nice and very clean. Beautiful views with the black hills and deer out eating in the morning.

Basic dated 4plex motel room

Dated bathroom, furniture, bed/mattress needs replacement, was lumpy and squeaked every time to moved; if you like nice new furnishings this isn't for you. It was okay for the price range but def not updated. Was looking for a cabin and was disappointed because it was listed as cabin but was just a motel room. Wifi never worked though was advertised. Owner, manager nice and tried to accommodate concerns.

After a busy day in Rapid it was so nice to be able to get off the main road and settle in. Rooms were great view was better there’s a place to eat and a gas station nearby all a person needs for a quiet hills trip

Great stay, nice staff, dog friendly property!

Our stay was great! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The cabin was nice and clean and looked similar to a hotel room inside. The property is very dog friendly and well maintained with pretty views. I will definitely recommend Elk Creek Resort to friends and will stay there again if I go back to the area for another trip.

Exactly what I wanted and more

I wanted a quiet and clean place with a view. Thats exactly what I got. The room was large and clean with all your basic amenities. Staff was very helpful with check in and restocking stuff during our 4 day stay. There is an amazing hill view. You're 20 minutes from Rapid City and 40 from Keystone. If you want to be away from the city but still close enough to explore then this is the place for you. Next time Im back in town I'll be back at Elk Creek Resort

Beautiful pet friendly

Beautiful place. Small cozy cabins. Very pet friendly. Lots of open spaces.

Our stay was very comfortable even with the Covid precautions in place. I left a couple items in the room and they reached out to me to make sure I had my items returned and shipped to me. Very nice people!

We had an amazing stay! We were in the little 3 plexes up on the hill and it was perfect! So clean and had everything we needed. The little porch with a table was made for morning coffees! I cannot recommend it enough!

Great get away. Not fancy but really nice. Wildlife every morning and night.

Great Place to stay!

We really liked our cabin. It was spacious and clean, and had nice accommodations. Tony in the office was very kind, friendly, gracious and accommodating. I would definitely stay at Elk Creek Resort again.

Pretty Cool place

Great spot for last minute accommodations for Sturgis. Pretty easy to locate. Cabin was a bit squeezy but we managed.

Nice and quiet. Check in personal was very nice and friendly. Beautiful view and off the beaten path,but close enough to get to all of the tourist attractions. Plenty of room for 8 of us. Beds were comfy. Pool was icy cold,but it was hot so it was good.The cabins needs an update,but it is nice for the price. Frig temp didn't seem too cold,hard to tell as thermostat was broken. Bathroom door needs oiled. With 8 people middle of the night bathroom runs were nosiy. Would stay again.=)

Great stay!

Very comfy! Exactly as pictured online, comfortable, clean, and well kept. We arrived after dark but awoke to find we had a lovely view out our front window. The owner was helpful and kind and i am confident would have been quick to help us if we had needs or questions. It was a charming little out of the way spot, but i felt safe and i would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Great little resort in the hills

This is such a cute little resort. Exactly what we expected. It may be a little dated, but who cares? We weren't there for luxury, we were there for a place to sleep. There is so much to do in the Black Hills; we were gone all day. We stayed two nights and were very happy with our little room. I liked that there was a pool. I was going to swim, but we didn't get back in time. The only issue we had was one of the beds sounds like bottles rolling around when rolling over. We were so tired tho, that it didn't matter much. The price was very reasonable. We will definitely stay there again if we head up that way again.

In need of repairs

Our room was not very clean, including mold in the coffee maker. The WiFi and TV did not work. The rooms have no insulation, so we could hear the neighbors while trying to sleep and the cigarette smoke from outside got into our room from the neighbors. The plumbing was in disrepair as well. I considered leaving early, even after having paid ahead.
